Edge Cases

How Structure Canvas handles situations like no survey yet, PDF or aerial only, and multiple layout ideas.

No survey yet

Use Set area size to define a work area in feet (e.g. 100 ft by 150 ft). Draw to scale without a background. When you get a survey, start a new project and upload it.

PDF survey or aerial only

PDFs and images (PNG, JPG, WEBP) are supported. Upload and calibrate with two points and a known distance. For aerial images, use a known dimension (e.g. from records) to calibrate. See Upload and Calibrate.

Multiple layouts, no account

Save each version as a separate Structure Canvas file (.bdf). No account needed; everything is local. Export PDF for permits or clients. See Export and Save.
